Oneus, a prominent K-pop boy band since their debut in January 2019, is no stranger to pushing creative boundaries. In their latest endeavor, the group has taken a bold leap by embracing a one-of-a-kind concept, transforming into mermen princes and serenading their audience in Spanish. Their 10th EP, "La Dolce Vita," released recently, marks a departure from their signature Korean-themed music, delving into uncharted linguistic and artistic territory.
Consisting of five members - Seoho, Leedo, Keonhee, Hwanwoong, and Xion - Oneus shared their motivation behind this daring musical experiment. Keonhee expressed, “Our goal for this album was to surprise the fans," seeking to break away from their familiar style and explore new artistic dimensions. With the departure of former member Ravn last November, this EP serves as a significant juncture for the band.
"La Dolce Vita" surprises not only in theme but also in language. The album's title and lead track, "Baila Conmigo," meaning "dance with me" in Spanish, set the tone for a Latin dance-pop experience inspired by "The Little Mermaid" storyline. The track's melody draws from Brahms' "Hungarian Dance No. 4," infused with a contemporary Latin Moombahton vibe.
With Spanish being a new language for the group, meticulous attention was given to pronunciation and melody to ensure authenticity and resonance with the global audience. The Spanish version of "Baila Conmigo" is a special gift to Oneus's Spanish-speaking fans, presenting the first time the group has sung an entire song in Spanish and released it as an official track.
This creative venture signifies a departure from Oneus's previous fictional narratives, notably the saga of six kings ruling an ancient human world. The group plans to commence their second world tour series, also named "La Dolce Vita," with concerts in Japan next month, followed by performances in Korea, Japan, Europe, and the United States. Their ambition is to communicate better with the audience and infuse positive energy, making fans proud to declare their fandom.
In their fifth year since debut, the members envision a bright future, aiming to establish Oneus's music on a global scale and inspire audiences worldwide.
