Korean Entertainment Company Fantagio Confirms Casting for "Medic Dae Jang Geum"

Lee Young-ae, a veteran South Korean actor, is set to return to the role that catapulted her to international fame two decades ago. Korean entertainment company Fantagio has announced that Lee Young-ae will lead the cast in the sequel to the legendary Korean drama series "Jewel in the Palace." The upcoming series, titled "Medic Dae Jang Geum," is slated to commence filming in October with an anticipated release in early 2025.

Korea"Jewel in the Palace," a 54-episode mega-hit period drama that originally aired in 2003, garnered widespread acclaim and recorded a remarkable viewership rating of 57 percent for its final episode in 2004, according to Nielsen Korea. The series chronicles the life journey of Seo Jang-geum, who rises from a palace maid to a medic during the Joseon era.

Lee Young-ae, acclaimed for her portrayal of Seo Jang-geum in the original series, received the grand prize at the 2003 MBC Drama Awards.

While the specific release date and broadcasting platform for "Medic Dae Jang Geum" have not been disclosed, Fantagio's confirmation of Lee Young-ae's reprisal of the iconic role has generated considerable anticipation for the sequel. Fans can expect the continuation of the compelling narrative that captivated audiences worldwide in the acclaimed "Jewel in the Palace" series.
