Renowned Austrian photographer Manfred Baumann has launched his latest photo book "Moments - Street Photography," describing it as his most authentic and unfiltered work to date. The collection, featuring over 250 photographs accumulated over the past 30 years, was presented at an exclusive event at BMW Vienna on Tuesday evening.
Baumann emphasized the raw authenticity of his new publication, telling reporters that "it is unretouched, uncensored, and my most honest work so far." The comprehensive collection showcases a diverse range of subjects and settings, from vibrant rodeo scenes and carnival festivities to intimate portraits of homeless individuals living on the streets.
The photographer's approach involves genuine human connection with his subjects. "You naturally talk to people and ask them how they're doing, and they tell you their story," Baumann explained, highlighting the personal relationships that form the foundation of his street photography work.
Baumann expressed particular fondness for his older photographs within the collection. "I think the older the pictures become, the more interesting they get, for example vintage photos of New York," he noted, reflecting on how time adds depth and historical significance to captured moments.
The book launch attracted numerous prominent figures from Austrian entertainment and sports circles. Notable attendees included actor Sky du Mont, who was photographed alongside Baumann and his wife Nelly, former soccer players Michael Konsel and Helge Payer, cabaret artists Reinhard Nowak and Monica Weinzettl, sports car dealer Heribert Kasper, cabaret performer Andrea Händler, television host Alfons Haider, actor Mat Schuh, and musician Christian Deix.
"Moments - Street Photography" represents three decades of Baumann's dedication to capturing authentic human experiences across various social contexts and geographical locations, establishing itself as a significant contribution to contemporary street photography documentation.
