Highly anticipated superhero film featuring iconic female characters set for local release on November 8

"The Marvels," the latest movie from Marvel Studios and a sequel to the 2019 film "Captain Marvel," is scheduled for release in Korean theaters on November 8, according to an announcement by Walt Disney Company Korea. The film follows the narrative of three notable female characters within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU): Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau.

In the original 2019 action sci-fi film directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, the story centers around Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), a former Air Force pilot who transforms into one of the most powerful heroes in the universe, known as Captain Marvel. Engaged in a war between two alien races, she uses her superpowers to uncover the truth behind her abilities and seek genuine allies.

The sequel, directed by Nia DaCosta of "Candyman" fame, continues the journey of Captain Marvel as she grapples with the consequences of her actions, picking up after her victories over former comrades and her quest to reclaim her identity. In the sequel, Captain Marvel, also known as Carol Danvers, encounters Kamala Khan, the teen superhero Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), and learns about unintended repercussions caused by her actions—an unstable universe.

A unique twist in the sequel involves Captain Marvel frequently switching places with Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) whenever she uses her powers. This intertwining of abilities leads the trio to form a team to restore balance to the universe.

Notably, the film generated significant interest in Korea due to the confirmation of actor Park Seo-joon's role. Known for his roles in popular Korean series such as "Itaewon Class," Park is making his Hollywood debut in "The Marvels," portraying the character Prince Yan, husband, and ally to Carol Danvers, adding to the excitement surrounding the film.

Park Seo-joon is the third major Korean star to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following Claudia Kim's appearance in 2015's "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and Don Lee's role as Gilgamesh in "Eternals" in 2021.
