In a recent announcement by BigHit Music, 30-year-old Suga, a prominent member of the K-pop sensation BTS, is set to commence his mandatory military service this week, beginning with an alternative duty on Friday. He becomes the third BTS member to fulfill this obligation, following Jin, who enlisted in December 2022, and J-Hope, who joined in April this year.
Unlike some of his fellow group members, Suga has been deemed unfit for regular combat duty, likely due to a surgery in 2020 to repair a torn labrum. As part of alternative service, individuals with health conditions undertake roles such as working in municipal government offices.
Despite Suga's public persona and prominence within BTS, BigHit Music has urged fans to respect his privacy and avoid visiting his place of duty during this period. Suga's solo debut effort, "D-Day," achieved significant success, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in May. Prior to his military service, he captivated audiences with a solo world tour, performing in 10 cities and attracting over 300,000 fans.
