In a recent development reported by China Central Television (CCTV), former EXO member Kris Wu, known as Wu Yi Fan, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison by a Beijing court. The decision comes after an investigation into multiple allegations of sexual assault.
The court dismissed Wu's appeal concerning charges of rape and group obscenity. China follows a two-trial system, with the second court's decision being final.
According to the court statement, Wu was found to have taken advantage of situations involving intoxicated female victims, leading to charges of rape. Additionally, he was deemed the main instigator in organizing promiscuous acts, constituting group obscenity. The court emphasized the clarity of the facts admitted in the original ruling and the sufficiency of evidence.
Wu has been in detention since July 31, 2021, undergoing investigations and trial proceedings. In China, formal arrests are authorized when there is substantial evidence supporting the charges, when the suspect is likely to face imprisonment, or if the suspect poses a threat to society.
In the initial trial held in November of the previous year, Wu received a sentence of 11 years and six months for rape and an additional 1 year and 10 months for group obscenity, resulting in a total of 13 years in prison.
The court's decision also includes an order for Wu's deportation from China upon completion of his sentence.
