Despite Freezing Weather, 4,000 Fans Gather at Korea University's Hwajung Gymnasium for Yoasobi's Unique Performance

Japanese duo Yoasobi, known for their novel reinterpretations into music, held their debut concert in Korea at Korea University's Hwajung Gymnasium, attracting approximately 4,000 fans despite freezing weather conditions.

The duo, consisting of producer Ayase and singer-songwriter Ikura, debuted in 2019 and has gained popularity for their distinctive approach to translating novels into musical compositions. The two-day concert, held on Saturday and Sunday, was initially planned as a single performance, but due to overwhelming demand from Korean fans, an additional Sunday show was added.

Tickets for the concert, which went on sale on November 17, sold out within a minute, underscoring the high anticipation among Korean J-pop enthusiasts. Yoasobi's concert featured a visually captivating laser show and kicked off with the song "Into The Night," prompting the audience to stand in welcome. Throughout the 90-minute performance, the duo presented 15 songs, including hits like "The Blessing," "Harujion," and "Probably."

Fans expressed their admiration in Japanese, shouting "I love you!" and "Beautiful!" while waving light sticks. During the performance of "Comet," Ikura encouraged the audience to create a starry atmosphere by waving their phones with flashlights on.

▲ Courtesy of LIVET, Kato ShumpeiThe duo returned to the stage for an encore, performing "Idol," the opening theme of the Japanese anime series "Oshi no Ko," a song that catapulted them to stardom with 200 million views on YouTube within 78 days of its release.

Expressing gratitude to the audience, Ayase spoke in Korean, stating, "I can feel your support all the time. Thank you so much. I’ll perform with love and respect." Ikura shared her excitement, noting that performing in Korea had been a dream, fueled by the affection received through social media.

Following their successful debut in Korea, Yoasobi is set to continue their Asia tour with performances scheduled in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, and Taipei, Taiwan, in January.
