Plus M Entertainment Confirms Milestone Achievement, Outperforming "The Roundup: No Way Out"

The drama "12.12: The Day" has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing $1 million in ticket sales in North American theaters, as reported by local distributor Plus M Entertainment on Wednesday. This success positions it as the highest-grossing Korean film to open in North America this year, surpassing "The Roundup: No Way Out," which recorded $910,000 in ticket sales. 

▲ Courtesy of PlusM EntertainmentReleased on November 22, the film, centered around Korea's military coup in 1979, reached over 10 million admissions on Sunday, marking it as the second film to achieve this milestone in 2022. Originally launched in three theaters in Los Angeles last month, the film is now being showcased in approximately 50 cinemas across the region.

"12.12: The Day" has generated significant interest, prompting numerous requests from local theaters to open the film in areas with fewer Korean residents. Despite its international success, the fictionalized historical drama continues to attract audiences in its home country, securing the second position in the daily box office rankings with 128,000 admissions on Tuesday. It closely trailed the Korean naval war film "Noryang: Deadly Sea," which garnered 136,000 viewers. "Noryang" depicts the final sea battle of Korea's legendary admiral Yi Sun-sin and his subsequent demise.
