A distinctive boutique hotel has opened in Da Nang, Vietnam, challenging conventional coastal hospitality architecture with its bold organic design language. The Saha Casa Boutique, designed by Ho Khue Architects, stands out prominently on Morrison Street, one of the major thoroughfares in this bustling seaside city. The five-story building plus basement, covering 321 square meters, represents a significant departure from the typical glass-facade block hotels that dominate the area.
The project embodies an impromptu and highly artistic architectural approach, featuring flowing organic curves that draw direct inspiration from natural formations. While existing coastal accommodation projects in Da Nang are dominated by glass blocks and subdued colors, Saha Casa Boutique chose a striking yellow stone tone that creates an impressively contrasting effect with its surroundings. This bold color choice makes the building a standout landmark in the rapidly developing tourist district.
The structure's most distinctive feature lies in its architectural lines developed based on natural cave structures. Drawing inspiration from the imagery of caves, the building incorporates flexible open and closed spaces, featuring soft arched doorways and windows throughout. This thoughtful contrast between solid and void, light and shadow, creates a continuous journey of discovery for guests, revealing corridors, pathways, gardens, and room spaces with diverse emotional nuances as they move through the building.
Instead of using conventional modern materials, the design team made a deliberate choice to use granite terrazzo, a traditional and environmentally friendly material that brings a rustic and intimate feel to the project. The rough-textured surface of this material creates a deep textural layer while acting as a refined envelope that regulates light and wind. This material choice generates continuously changing shadow patterns throughout the day, ensuring the building maintains a dynamic appearance from sunrise to sunset.
The ground floor serves as an airy atrium of delicate elegance, featuring a beautiful fish pond that floats elegantly among decorative plantings. The open central core provides natural light from above, creating what the architects describe as a wellspring of life. This hallowed area functions as the beating heart of Saha Casa, from which each hallway extends like gentle arms, enveloping and leading visitors to the safety of their rooms. Emerald green carpets rise with exquisite elegance, creating a symphony of vegetation that spreads from one floor to the next, blending to form a stunning vertical garden.
One of the most audacious features of the hotel is its rooftop glass-sided swimming pool, which represents a bold and imaginative architectural achievement. With a structural console span extending out to six meters, the pool is cantilevered like a boat floating in the sky, providing guests with what architects describe as a breathtaking and exhilarating sensation. The front glass wall of the pool utilizes special acrylic panels, offering swimmers a panoramic view and a truly unique swimming experience high above the city.
Every space at Saha Casa has been meticulously designed to lead visitors into a dialogue with architecture itself. Guests experience the cool sensation when stepping on stone floors, inhale the scent of plants blending with the wind, and enjoy the tranquil sound of flowing water throughout their stay. The project transcends being merely a place to reside, instead offering a comprehensive sensory experience that affirms the beauty found in utmost simplicity and sincerity.
Architect Ho Khue shared insights about the project's vision, stating that when the team began sketching the design, they proposed to the investor their desire for Saha Casa to not only provide guests with a comfortable retreat but also to evoke a sense of architectural art. This philosophy represents the spirit that Saha Casa Boutique aims to convey, creating a unique imprint on Da Nang's coastal urban architecture. The architect emphasized their constant aspiration and passion for creating innovative architectural works, dedicating themselves tirelessly to realizing and bringing these visions to life.
The project utilized various high-quality materials and systems, including products from Sika, Hitachi Air Conditioning, Gia Phong, and LG, with interior design handled by FHD. Construction partners included Tin An, Ngoc Long Viet, and Tam Trung Tin. The hotel is expected to become an enticing tourist attraction and usher in a new era for architectural design in the region, demonstrating how hospitality architecture can successfully challenge conventional approaches while creating memorable experiences for guests.
