In a resounding display of talent and artistry, Boynextdoor, the inaugural group from Zico's KOZ Entertainment label under the prestigious Hybe conglomerate, has emerged as the newest sensation in the world of K-pop. Comprised of Sungho, Riwoo, Jaehyun, Taesan, Leehan, and Woonhak, the six-piece band recently held a press conference at Blue Square in Yongsan, central Seoul, to celebrate the release of their debut single, "Who!" The event showcased their enthusiasm and excitement as they embarked on their musical journey.
Boynextdoor's debut comes under the Hybe umbrella, a multilabel company housing renowned acts such as BTS, Seventeen, and NewJeans. As the first group launched under the KOZ Entertainment label, the band is poised to carve its own path in the competitive landscape of K-pop.
Expressing their awe and gratitude, Woonhak, the youngest member, shared, "It's overwhelming that the world is finally hearing our voice." Sungho added, "I began training at KOZ and feel overjoyed to debut here." This sentiment encapsulates the deep sense of accomplishment and pride the group feels as they step into the limelight.
Established independently by Zico in 2018, KOZ Entertainment was subsequently acquired by Big Hit Entertainment, which later rebranded as Hybe in 2021. As part of Hybe Labels, which encompasses Big Hit Music, Pledis Entertainment, Ador, Source Music, and Belift Lab, KOZ Entertainment now holds a significant place within the industry.
Over the past four years, Boynextdoor's members have undergone meticulous training and assembly under the guidance of Zico, alongside his long-time music partner, producer Pop Time. Drawing from Zico's own experiences as a former member of the hip-hop idol group Block B, the group's formation and development have been carefully nurtured to ensure their unique talents shine.
Boynextdoor's debut single album, titled "Who!," showcases their versatility and creative prowess. Notably, all three tracks—"But I Like You," "One and Only," and "Serenade"—share the spotlight as lead songs, bucking the trend of having a single dominant track in most albums. The members recommend experiencing the songs in order to fully appreciate the cohesive narrative that connects them.
Embodying the energy and essence of Boynextdoor, "But I Like You" serves as an exemplary showcase of the band's musical identity. Taesan, along with Jaehyun and Woonhak, contributed as songwriters, carefully infusing the track with the group's distinctive flair. Furthermore, "One and Only," produced by Zico in collaboration with Pop Time, highlights the group's performance abilities and features a captivating choreography that complements their band name. The sextet's choreography video, shot personally by the members themselves, adds an authentic touch to their artistic vision.
In a departure from the perfectly synchronized group dances often associated with K-pop, Boynextdoor's choreography places less emphasis on uniformity, allowing each member to shine individually while sharing the spotlight. This deviation aligns with the band's overarching desire to present their true selves through their music and concept.
