NewJeans, the K-pop sensation, is set to headline the 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards on May 6, marking the second instance of a K-pop female act receiving this honor and performing at the prestigious event, following Twice.
Acknowledged as the Group of the Year, NewJeans earned this accolade at the Billboard's annual celebration, recognizing influential women in the global music industry. Their album "Get Up" (2023) claimed the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart, making it the fifth best-selling album in the United States last year—an unprecedented feat for a K-pop girl group since Taylor Swift's "1989 (Taylor's Version)" (2023).
NewJeans also showcased their dominance on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, securing five tracks, including "OMG" (2023), "Ditto" (2022), "Super Shy" (2023), "ETA" (2023), and "Cool With You" (2023).
Having previously performed at the Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) last year, NewJeans became the inaugural K-pop girl group to grace the BBMAs stage.
The upcoming awards show, featuring past honorees like Twice, SZA, Olivia Rodrigo, Cardi B, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift, is scheduled for the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles.
