Artist Françoise Ferrandi, known by her artistic name Fior di Lisia, recently presented her captivating exhibition "Piana, Atout Cœur" at the multipurpose hall in Piana, Corsica. The exhibition primarily focuses on island landscapes, inviting visitors on an immersive journey through some of Corsica's most spectacular natural sites.
The breathtaking landscapes of western Corsica, including Piana, Marignana, Evisa, and Girolata, were displayed alongside other iconic Corsican locations such as the Sanguinaires Islands, Bonifacio, Cap Corse, and Balagne. More than 40 paintings were strategically arranged around the municipal hall, designed to transport visitors on an almost dreamlike voyage through some of the island's most beautiful locations.
"I paint most often from nature, using watercolors while striving to capture every detail and as much light as possible – the light that transcends time, soothes, or transforms night into a jewel, which I recreate by nuancing colors often enhanced with gold leaf," explained Ferrandi, who studied under painter René Milone and considers Mediterranean light as her foundation. The artist emphasized her commitment to storytelling through her work, stating, "I'm very particular about my paintings conveying a historical point, a legend, or containing a story that I imagine from a detail."
While the exhibition includes some canvases executed last year, it also presents work completed during the winter months. Several paintings feature emblematic viewpoints of western Corsica, including the famous Calanques de Piana and the "Heart of Lovers" rock formation. This collection represents a special tribute to the artist's native region.
After completing a creative residency in Canada, Ferrandi plans to export her canvases and the majestic island landscapes internationally, bringing Corsican beauty to audiences around the world. The exhibition offers art enthusiasts and tourists alike an opportunity to rediscover western Corsica through the unique perspective of a local artist who deeply understands the region's natural splendor and cultural significance.
