S&Co Confirms First Asian Staging of Award-Winning Musical
▲ Courtesy of S&CO"Dear Evan Hansen" revolves around the challenges faced by a lonely high schooler named Evan Hansen, who becomes entangled in a web of lies while pretending to have been friends with a recently deceased classmate. The musical premiered in Washington, D.C. in 2015, followed by its Broadway debut in 2016. It garnered six Tony Awards in 2017, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score.
The music and lyrics for "Dear Evan Hansen" were crafted by the American songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, known for their work in films such as "La La Land" (2016) and "The Greatest Showman" (2017). The book is authored by American playwright and television writer Steven Levenson, while the direction was led by veteran American director Michael Greif.
S&Co also disclosed plans to stage licensed performances of "Hadestown" in July and "Aladdin" in November of the coming year. Additionally, the world tour production of "School of Rock," presented by S&Co, is scheduled to open on January 12 at the Seoul Arts Center's Opera House and will run through March 24. This production will be performed in English, with tickets available on the local ticketing platform Interpark.
