The 21st Korea International Art Fair, Kiaf, and one of the top global art fairs, Frieze simultaneously opened in Korea. With the launch of Frieze Seoul, Kiaf’s number of visitors and sales expectations were not met but Frieze Seoul is full of visitors.
The Frieze Seoul exhibition hall presented a variety section with a unique view on historical art and contemporary art, with works made before the year 2000 to recent artworks. Including artworks by Pablo Picasso, Damien Hurst, Roy Lichtenstein, and Andy Warhol’s works. From the first day of opening, every section was full of people willing to buy artworks.
Kiaf SEOUL is dominated by trendy artworks, sculptures, and media artworks by blue-chip artists. But compared to the opening day of the previous year, many galleries reported selling works were not as much as expected. The crowd seemed mostly Korean, but some visitors from abroad claimed that the prices listed in Korean Won were confusing.
Frieze Seoul Plus runs through September 5 and Kiaf Seoul runs through September 6 at COEX.
