French painter Jeannette Guichard-Bunel, a native of Cherbourg in Normandy, will open the doors of her art studio to the public during France's first National Artists' Day on Saturday, September 13, and Sunday, September 14, 2025. The event, organized by the Maison des Artistes under the patronage of France's Ministry of Culture, will showcase approximately sixty of her paintings in a retrospective spanning more than three decades of artistic creation.

For this special occasion, Guichard-Bunel will present works that explore the major themes that have shaped her artistic universe throughout her career: childhood, world ethnicities, angels, spiritual imagination, cartoons and humor, women, and pin-up art. The exhibition will offer visitors a comprehensive look at her evolution as an artist since she began painting in 1983.

Guichard-Bunel's path to art was unconventional. Originally a high-level gymnast who later became a physical education teacher, she discovered painting through passion and pleasure in 1983. Her artistic career truly launched in 1991 when she joined the prestigious Vekava Gallery in the Bastille district of Paris, where she crossed paths with renowned French singer and actor Serge Reggiani.

Reggiani, a multi-talented artist who also exhibited his paintings, developed a deep friendship with Guichard-Bunel. It was at the Vekava Gallery that her exhibition titled "Black Women Around the World" achieved remarkable success and was even used to promote French rapper Tonton David's new album. This period marked the true beginning of her professional artistic career.

Since 2003, Guichard-Bunel's sumptuous paintings featuring luminous colors have been exhibited in numerous galleries across France and internationally, including Germany, Hungary, New Caledonia, the United States, Switzerland, and Guadeloupe. Her growing reputation in the art world eventually led to a prestigious opportunity when the Néel Gallery in Cannes offered to display her works at the legendary Carlton Hotel, a mythical venue that has hosted some of cinema and music's biggest stars.

What was initially planned as a three-month exhibition at the Carlton Hotel extended to three years due to popular demand. In 2013, to commemorate the hotel's centenary, Guichard-Bunel was commissioned to create a special series themed around cinema. Some of these cinema-inspired paintings will be visible in her studio during the upcoming open house event.

Before embarking on another extensive world tour, Guichard-Bunel makes it an annual tradition to showcase her vibrant and shimmering paintings to the residents of Cherbourg. Her studio has only been open to the public since 2013, and several paintings have never been previously displayed to audiences.

During this special visit, attendees will also have the opportunity to discover the bronze, resin, and wood sculptures created by her husband, Jean-Pierre, who has always supported her work and remains her most devoted admirer. The couple's collaborative artistic environment adds another dimension to the studio experience.

The open house at Jeannette Guichard-Bunel's studio will take place at 401 D, Chemin des Fontaines, on Saturday, September 13, and Sunday, September 14, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, or by appointment at 06 70 86 20 81. Additional information can be found on her website at www.jeannetteguichardbunel.com or on the artist's Facebook page. Those interested in engaging with the artist and immersing themselves in the unique universe of her works are encouraged not to miss this exceptional opportunity.
