Gallery Date opened in 2009 in the aim of raising cultural values in the local area and Korea through professional and artistic exhibitions. It developed by walking the same road with numerous artists to make modern art and culture an everyday reality.
Gallery Date has held numerous prominent exhibitions starting with Lee Dong-Youb, and then showed the work of Choi Byng-So, Hur Hwang, Nam Tchun-Mo, Jang Seung-Taik, Choi Man-Lin, Kim Ku-Lim, Shin Sung-Hy, Choi In-Su, Kim Taek-Sang, Kim Tschoon-Su, Cheon Kwang-Yub, Stephane Bordarier, Tim Bavington, and Timothee Talard. Gallery Date promoted Korean Dansaekhwa to Korea and abroad. In particular, Gallery Date produces special exhibition catalogues containing critical reviews.
As a contemporary art gallery, Gallery Date is a leading exhibitor and has managed ceaseless in-depth projects shedding new light on Dansaekhwa, which is now gaining international spotlight. In addition, Gallery Date exhibits annual group exhibitions of ‘Dansaek (monochrome) style paintings’, and has held exhibitions representing veteran, prominent and emerging artists of Korean contemporary art.
Gallery Date introduces their artists to art fairs (KIAF, Korean Galleries Art Fair, Daegu Art Fair, Art Busan, BAMA), ceaselessly researches artists for the high standard of the art fairs, and endeavours towards the development of Korean contemporary art through communicating with artists, collectors and galleries.
Gallery Date has established its own character and has held exhibitions of Dansaekhwa artists’ work which represent modern and contemporary Korean art. Furthermore, the gallery is researching and planning to support emerging artists’ ability so they might expand their unique art world. It will operate various programmes which can continuously fill the cultural needs, and is committed to introduce high standard exhibitions. These demonstrate the Korean and global art market’s flow at a glance in a new cultural space which the Twenty-first Century requires.
