K-pop Girl Group Becomes First to Grace BBMAs Stage with Five Nominations

K-pop sensation NewJeans is set to make history as the first girl group from the genre to perform at the Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) 2023 in Las Vegas on Nov. 19.
 

The five-member girl group will showcase their hits "Super Shy" and "OMG" during the prestigious awards ceremony. Both songs entered the Billboard Hot 100 this year, marking significant achievements for the group.

NewJeans follows in the footsteps of BTS, becoming the second K-pop group to grace the BBMAs stage. With five nominations, NewJeans is the most nominated K-pop artist at the BBMAs, securing nods in categories such as Top Billboard Global Artist (Excl. U.S.), Top Global K-pop Artist, Top Global K-pop Song, and twice for Top K-pop Album. The BBMAs performance comes just one year and three months after NewJeans' debut in July 2022, setting a record as the fastest K-pop artist to achieve this milestone.

Since their debut, NewJeans has consistently dominated the K-pop scene, with their EP "New Jeans" making waves in the industry. Notable hits such as "Ditto" (2022), "OMG," and "Hype boy" (2022) have positioned NewJeans as one of the biggest names in K-pop. The group's performance at the BBMAs adds them to the list of esteemed performers, including Peso Pluma and Bebe Rexha & David Guetta. NewJeans' debut at the BBMAs reflects their rapid ascent in the K-pop world, solidifying their presence with an unprecedented performance on the global stage.
