On the occasion of Children's Day in Korea, two of the country's most popular celebrities, singer IU and actor Lee Byung-hun, each donated 100 million won ($75,900) to children's organizations. IU donated the amount to the Child Fund, a domestic charitable organization that focuses on child welfare, while Lee donated to the Seoul Asan Hospital's Pediatric Department.
IU has been known for her philanthropic efforts towards children since 2015, and her recent donation will be used to provide for disabled children, children from one-parent families, and other children in need, according to the Child Fund. Meanwhile, Lee's donation will be used to help the families of child patients who are facing financial difficulties paying for their treatment.
The act of giving by the two stars has brought attention to the importance of supporting children's welfare and health, especially during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic which has disproportionately affected vulnerable groups. As many children and families continue to face economic and social challenges, donations like these can help provide much-needed resources and support.
The donations have also been seen as a positive example for others in the entertainment industry to follow, as celebrities have significant influence and can inspire others to give back to their communities. IU and Lee's generous contributions demonstrate the power of celebrity philanthropy to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those in need.
