Game publisher NCSoft is introducing three new game titles across diverse genres in a strategic move to expand revenue streams beyond its widely successful Lineage franchise. At the G-Star 2023 game festival, NCSoft showcased seven new titles, with three available for visitors to experience for the first time.
NCSoft founder Kim Taek-jin made a rare appearance at the company's booth at Bexco, Busan, personally addressing the press for the first time in eight years. Emphasizing the departure from the conventional Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) genre, Kim expressed hope that gamers would appreciate the quality of NCSoft's new offerings.
The three latest titles unveiled are as follows:
-Role-playing game (RPG) Project BSS.
-Massively multiplayer online (MMO) shooting game LLL.
-Multiplatform game Battle Crush.
LLL, set in a dystopian Seoul with a sci-fi horror theme, challenges players to protect the city by shooting monsters. The game boasts high-quality graphics featuring recognizable locations such as Gangnam and the Coex convention center. NCSoft is targeting a global market release for LLL, with a closed beta test planned for the coming year.
Battle Crush, the first NCSoft game with cross-play support, is scheduled for release by the first half of next year. The game centers around gods and goddesses from ancient Greek and Norse mythology battling for survival, offering cross-platform play on Steam, Google Android, and Nintendo Switch.
RPG Project BSS, slated for a release next year, draws inspiration from NCSoft's MMORPG Blade & Soul but is set three years prior to the original game. The game follows a different protagonist, Yoo Seol, on an adventure to collect heroes and enhance skills. The developers, while yet to finalize the business model, highlight that players can collect heroes through gameplay, with charged items potentially expediting the process.
NCSoft aims to diversify its gaming portfolio and break away from the dominance of the Lineage franchise through these ventures, with specific attention to global markets and cross-platform accessibility.
