The Korea Cultural Center Nigeria (KCCN) has launched a comprehensive initiative to expand Korean restaurant presence in Nigeria while strengthening cultural ties between the two nations. The program specifically targets the significant gap in Korean dining options across major Nigerian cities, where authentic Korean cuisine remains largely inaccessible to local residents.

At a summer cooking class held in Abuja, event manager Yun Jin Lee highlighted the critical need for this expansion program. She explained that the initiative primarily focuses on training local women to prepare authentic Korean dishes, addressing the notable absence of Korean restaurants in both Abuja and Lagos, Nigeria's most prominent cities. This educational approach represents a strategic effort to build local expertise in Korean culinary arts.

Lee pointed out the stark contrast in Asian cuisine availability within Nigeria's restaurant landscape. While Chinese and Japanese restaurants have successfully established themselves in the market, Korean cuisine remains conspicuously absent from the dining scene. This gap has left Korean food enthusiasts and the growing Korean expatriate community with limited options for authentic dining experiences.

One of the primary challenges identified by the KCCN involves the scarcity of authentic Korean ingredients in local markets. To overcome this obstacle, the cultural center has taken the initiative to import genuine Korean ingredients directly for use in their cooking programs. The August cooking class exemplified the program's seasonal approach to Korean cuisine education. Themed around summer vacation concepts, the class introduced participants to refreshing seasonal Korean dishes specifically chosen for their appeal during Nigeria's warm climate.
