Karina, a member of the K-pop girl group aespa, issued a public apology on Instagram for her recently revealed relationship with actor Lee Jae-wook. The handwritten letter, posted on Tuesday night, expressed regret for startling fans and acknowledged potential disappointment among the group's fan club, known as MYs.
In the apology, Karina acknowledged the disappointment MYs may feel and expressed a desire to make amends for any hurt caused. She affirmed her sincerity towards the fans and pledged to work harder not to let them down in the future. The apology came a week after news of her relationship broke.
However, the apology has stirred controversy and further upset fans, with some expressing dismay on online platforms. Fans criticized the apology's public nature, suggesting it should have been shared on SM Entertainment's private messaging service, Bubble, instead of Instagram. Online communities, including Nate Pann, witnessed numerous posts reflecting disappointment and a sentiment that no apology was necessary.
The hashtag "Yujimineunbwara," meaning "read this Yu Ji-min," trended on Twitter, with fans expressing discontent over Karina dating shortly into her career, just weeks before the group's upcoming first full-length album release in April.
aespa, a four-member group, is gearing up for the release of their first full-length album in April and plans to commence their second world tour, "Synk: Parallel Line," in June. Meanwhile, SM Entertainment's stocks have experienced a decline since the beginning of 2024, intensifying further after recent news of SHINee members leaving the agency.
