(Seoul) FELDBUSCHWIESNERRUDOLPH is participating in Art Busan 2023, which is one of the largest art fairs in Korea. The art gallery, located in Berlin, Germany, has gained recognition for its successful representation of mid-career and emerging contemporary artists.
The gallery showcased the works of two artists, Paul Pretzer and Christine Streuli, and drew a large crowd of art enthusiasts to their booth. During SayArt's visit to the gallery’s booth on Friday, Director Stefanie Feldbusch provided an in-depth look at the work of Paul Pretzer (See her interview video).
Paul Pretzer is an Estonian artist who was born in 1981 and is known for his ever-evolving pictorial cosmos that features new characters and beings on his canvases. His latest series of works highlight fruits as a motif, with seashells and pumpkins serving as pedestals for a head placed on top. His still lifes are arranged from fruits, vegetables, and other objects to create chimera-like creations. His narrative motifs include donkeys, fish heads, monkeys, and individual portraits that are sometimes fearful or frightening, entering the Pretzer stage with varying degrees of confidence.
Pretzer studied under Prof. Ralf Kerbach in Kiel and Dresden before settling in Barcelona, where he currently lives and works. He has exhibited his works regularly in Germany, Europe, and the United States, including solo shows at Marc Straus Gallery in New York and FeldbuschWiesnerRudolph Gallery in Berlin. His work has also been featured in group exhibitions such as "Made in Germany Contemporary Art from the Rubell Family Collection" at the MNay Art Museum in San Antonio in 2015.
