In a groundbreaking achievement, BTS member V's inaugural solo album, "Layover," secured an impressive No. 2 spot on the prestigious Billboard 200 albums chart upon its recent release. This achievement places V on par with fellow BTS band members Jimin and Suga, marking a tied record as the highest-ranking K-pop solo artist on this renowned chart.
The lead track from "Layover," titled "Slow Dancing," made its impactful debut at No. 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, according to the U.S-based music chart service. V's ascent on the Billboard 200, selling over 100,000 equivalent units in the first week in the United States, signified a significant milestone in his solo career, bolstered by 88,000 physical album sales, as reported by Billboard.
This remarkable feat marked V's first appearance on Billboard's main chart as a solo artist and his third time gracing the Billboard Hot 100. Previous entries on the Hot 100 include "Christmas Tree," a soundtrack for the 2021 drama "Our Beloved Summer," and "Love Me Again," the prereleased track from "Layover."
In addition to the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 achievements, "Layover" made waves on multiple other Billboard charts, securing No. 2 spots on the Top Album Sales chart and Top Current Albums chart. The lead track "Slow Dancing" also found its place at No. 2 on the Digital Song Sales chart, No. 3 on the Global Excl. US chart, and No. 4 on the Global 200.
V's highly anticipated solo album "Layover" made its grand debut on September 8, emerging as the final solo album release among the members of BTS. The album achieved groundbreaking records right from its launch, with an astonishing 1.67 million copies sold on the release day and a monumental 2.1 million copies in its first week, setting a new standard for solo K-pop artists.
