Singer Hyeri, a member of Girl's Day, issued an apology on her Instagram account on Monday afternoon, expressing regret for her "very personal and emotional response" to the news of her ex-boyfriend, actor Ryu Jun-yeol, dating Han So-hee.
In her statement, Hyeri acknowledged the assumptions and controversy that arose from her initial reaction, expressing remorse for any damage caused by her actions. She clarified that she did not anticipate the consequences of her response and apologized to those affected.
Hyeri's apology followed comments online speculating about Ryu's involvement with Han while allegedly still in a relationship with her. The speculation ignited when Hyeri posted an Instagram Story with the phrase "This is fun" shortly after news of Ryu and Han's relationship broke on Friday.
Hyeri explained that news of her breakup with Ryu was first reported in November, emphasizing that the decision was not made hastily. She admitted to reacting emotionally to the news of Ryu and Han's relationship, expressing regret for any harm caused by her impulsive response.
Regarding her delayed explanation, Hyeri cited concerns about privacy and personal matters, expressing apologies for any resulting confusion and pledging to exercise more prudence in the future.
Earlier on Monday, Han's agency announced plans to take legal action against "malicious comments" targeting the actor and her boyfriend, Ryu. Reports indicated that Ryu returned to Korea alone from Hawaii, where he was previously seen with Han. Han was scheduled to return separately on Tuesday.
