The Louis T. Graves Memorial Public Library in Kennebunkport is hosting multiple community events throughout September, including Library Card Sign-up Month promotions, a photography exhibition, and meet-and-greet sessions with their new director. The library is encouraging both new and existing patrons to participate in various activities designed to strengthen community engagement.
September marks Library Card Sign-up Month at Graves Memorial Library, offering residents multiple opportunities to win prizes through a special raffle. Community members can enter the drawing by signing up for a new library card, referring a friend to obtain a card, or simply updating their information on an existing card during the month of September. This initiative aims to increase library membership and ensure patron records remain current.
The Portland Camera Club is returning to showcase their work at the library from September 4-30, with their exhibit displayed in the Business Center. This collaboration represents an exciting opportunity for visitors to view photography from one of America's most established camera organizations. Founded on May 24, 1899, the Portland Camera Club holds the distinction of being one of the oldest camera clubs in the United States, boasting a rich history spanning over 125 years.
The camera club welcomes photographers of all skill levels, from complete beginners to seasoned professionals, regardless of their experience or equipment. Their comprehensive programs include educational opportunities through classes and workshops, organized photo outings to scenic locations, presentations by guest speakers, and competitive events that challenge members to improve their craft. The organization maintains prestigious affiliations as a charter member of both the Photographic Society of America and the New England Camera Club Council.
Library patrons and community members are invited to meet the new Library Director, Loretta Swift, during two special coffee and conversation sessions. These welcoming events are scheduled for Wednesday, September 10, and Thursday, September 25, both beginning at 9:30 a.m. The informal gatherings will feature complimentary coffee, tea, and pastries, creating a comfortable environment for community members to introduce themselves and discuss their interests and suggestions for the library.
The Louis T. Graves Memorial Public Library is conveniently located at 18 Maine Street in Kennebunkport.
