Jay, a cherished member of the renowned boy band iKON, will embark on his mandatory military service starting July 20, marking a significant milestone in his career and personal journey. The singer took to his Instagram account on Friday to share the news directly with his devoted fans, expressing his heartfelt gratitude and assuring them of his sincere commitment to fulfilling his duty.
"I felt compelled to share this news with you before anyone else," Jay wrote in his Instagram post. "On July 20, I will commence my military service." As the eldest member of iKON, Jay assumes the role of trailblazer, leading the way for his fellow bandmates who will follow suit in fulfilling their mandatory duties.
While Jay expressed his regrets for not being able to showcase all the preparations he had made, he acknowledged the anticipation of their fans and opted to remain humble. "I've had many things planned and many things I haven't revealed, but I'll refrain from saying more, understanding that our fans may have expected more," he expressed.
With unwavering determination, Jay pledged to complete his mandatory military service with utmost sincerity and looked forward to his eventual return. His commitment to both his fans and his country shines through as he embraces this temporary departure from the stage to fulfill his civic obligation.
In South Korea, all able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 35 are required to serve approximately one and a half years in the military, forming an integral part of the nation's commitment to defense and security.
Jay's journey in the world of K-pop began in 2015 when he debuted as a member of the acclaimed boy band iKON under the renowned YG Entertainment. Together, iKON captivated audiences with numerous hit tracks, including the chart-topping "Love Scenario" (2018), "Rhythm Ta" (2015), and "Killing Me" (2018). However, the group faced a setback when member B.I departed in 2019 after admitting to using illegal drugs.
Despite the challenges, the remaining six members, including Jay, took a significant step forward in their careers by signing with 143 Entertainment last year. This fresh partnership allowed them to continue pursuing their musical aspirations under the guidance of esteemed composer and music producer DM, who founded the newborn agency.
As Jay temporarily bids farewell to the stage and begins his military service, fans and fellow iKON members eagerly await his return. His commitment to fulfilling his duties while keeping the spirit of music alive in his heart embodies the resilience and dedication exhibited by many beloved K-pop idols.
