K-pop group NewJeans and virtual boy band Heartsteel are scheduled to perform at the opening ceremony of the League of Legends World Championship Final, taking place at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul on November 19, as announced by Riot Games.
The League of Legends World Championship, a prominent competitive multiplayer video gaming tournament, is known for its grand opening ceremonies, featuring live performances by notable artists who sing the tournament's anthem.
Past tournaments have seen renowned acts like Imagine Dragons, rock band Against the Current, and K-pop stars Soyeon and Miyeon from (G)I-dle gracing the stage. In 2022, American rapper and singer LiL Nas X collaborated with the championship, releasing the track "Star Walkin."
NewJeans, responsible for this year's League of Legends World Championship anthem, "Gods," which was released on October 4, is expected to perform the anthem live during the finals, much to the anticipation of esports fans.
Virtual boy band Heartsteel will make their stage debut on November 19, performing their debut single, "Paranoia." The group features Baekhyun of EXO, rapper Cal Scruby, singer-songwriter and producer Ozi, and rapper Tobi Lou.
A total of 22 teams commenced their journey towards the Summoner's Cup, the prestigious trophy awarded to the winners of the World Championship, on October 10. The semifinals, featuring four esports teams—T1 from Korea, Weibo Gaming, Bilibili Gaming, and Jingdong Gaming from China—will take place at Sajik Gymnasium in Busan on November 11 and 12.
