K-pop singer Bibi's recent release, "Bam Yang Gang (chestnut jelly)," has not only dominated music charts but has also led to a substantial surge in sales of the traditional Korean jelly, yanggaeng. The song, unveiled on Feb. 13, has notably influenced major convenience store chains in South Korea, including CU, GS25, Seven Eleven, and Emart24.

Industry data indicates that from the song's release until March 6, these convenience store chains reported a sales increase of up to 100 percent for Haitai Confectionery's "Yeon Yanggaeng." Yanggaeng, a traditional homemade snack made from glutinous rice flour, sugar, and nuts or seeds, has experienced a resurgence in popularity, partly attributed to the song.

In the packaged yanggaeng market, Haitai's Yeon Yanggaeng holds an 80 percent share, while Crown Confectionery's Bam Yanggaeng accounts for the remaining 20 percent. Yoon Young-dal, chief of Crown-Haitai Group, the parent company of these confectionery firms, acknowledged the impact of the song on demand, leading the group to increase production capacity for traditional jelly products.

"Bam Yang Gang" currently leads major music streaming charts in South Korea, including Melon Top 100 and Vibe. Produced and written by Chang Ki-ha, the song is described as a "breezy tune with a touch of waltz" and narrates memories of past love, symbolized by the simple act of sharing yanggaengjelly between lovers.
