Action Thriller Series Adapted from Popular Webcomic

Disney+ is set to launch a new Korean original series titled "Vigilante," which is based on a well-received webcomic of the same name. The action thriller series centers around Kim Ji-yong, portrayed by Nam Joo-hyuk, a diligent student at the Korean National Police University who leads a double life. By day, he aspires to become a police officer, undergoing training in law enforcement. By night, he assumes the persona of a vigilante under the alias Vigilante, taking justice into his own hands and delivering judgment to criminals who have evaded the law.

Filmmaker Choi Jeong-Yeol, known for his work on the comedy action film "Start-Up" (2019), directs the series, while judge-turned-scriptwriter Moon Yoo-seok, creator of "The Devil Judge" (2021), is involved in its production.

Choi Jeong-Yeol, speaking at a press conference for the series, expressed his enthusiasm for adapting the intense webcomic into a series and his desire to craft cliff-hanging endings that would captivate viewers and keep them eagerly awaiting each episode.

The series delves into Kim's dual existence and explores the people in his life, including Jo Heon (portrayed by Yu Ji-tae), the captain of the Metropolitan Investigation Squad, who is determined to apprehend Vigilante. Lee Joon-hyuk takes on the role of Jo Gang-ok, a wealthy heir and ardent supporter of Vigilante.

The director highlighted the challenge of condensing a 141-episode webcomic into an eight-part series. His focus was to explore the relationships among the characters and the compelling narratives that emerge from their interactions.

Nam Joo-hyuk, the lead actor, couldn't attend the press conference due to his mandatory military service but expressed his gratitude to his co-stars and the production team through a video message. He asked viewers for their support and anticipation of the series.

Yu Ji-tae plays a charismatic detective in pursuit of Vigilante and revealed he gained approximately 20 kilograms to portray his formidable character. He emphasized his passion for the webcomic and how he recommended it to others when it was first released, feeling a sense of destiny when he was cast in the series.

"Vigilante" is set to premiere on Wednesday.
