On Friday, Suga, a prominent member of the globally acclaimed K-pop group BTS, commenced his mandatory military service, marking a significant step in his career. He will undertake alternative service after initial basic training during the initial weeks at boot camp.
Addressing his dedicated fan community known as ARMY, Suga conveyed his gratitude and expressed his determination to fulfill his national duty. He emphasized the role ARMY played in his journey and assured them of his unwavering love. Suga shared these sentiments on Weverse, a platform where artists connect with their fans.
Notably, Suga chose not to defer his mandatory military service, initiating the enlistment process last month. While the exact reason for his assignment to alternative service was not disclosed by Big Hit Music, it is believed to be related to a labral tear surgery he underwent in 2020.
Suga becomes the third member of BTS to embark on their compulsory military service, following Jin, who enlisted in December 2022, and J-Hope, who began his service in April this year. As fans bid farewell for now, they eagerly anticipate Suga's return in 2025, keeping the flame of their support alive during his absence.
