South Korean architecture firm ATELIER KHJ has completed the design of a new flagship store for Coor in Seoul's trendy Seongsu district. The 521-square-meter retail space, finished in 2023, represents a thoughtful approach to commercial interior design in one of the city's most vibrant neighborhoods.
Lead architect Hyunjong Kim worked alongside design team members Chaewon Kang and Jihyeong Lee to create the renovation project. The store design demonstrates ATELIER KHJ's expertise in transforming commercial spaces while maintaining functionality and aesthetic appeal.
According to the architects, designing commercial spaces often presents unique challenges, particularly in high-value real estate areas where maximizing usable space is crucial. The team noted that most retailers prefer to maximize display areas while ensuring adequate circulation space, especially in narrow commercial environments.
The Seongsu district location adds cultural significance to the project, as this area has become increasingly popular for its blend of traditional Korean architecture and modern commercial developments. The flagship store contributes to the district's evolving retail landscape.
Photographer Sun Kim documented the completed project, capturing how ATELIER KHJ successfully balanced commercial requirements with innovative design solutions. The renovation showcases the firm's ability to work within existing architectural constraints while creating a distinctive retail environment.
