Korean travel agencies are capitalizing on the public's interest in Fu Bao, the first Korea-born giant panda recently transferred to China, by offering panda-themed tour packages.
Hana Tour, the nation’s largest travel agency, will launch panda tour packages to China, featuring visits to the Shenshuping Base of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda in Wolong, where Fu Bao is currently located.
Modetour has introduced tour packages to Chengdu, including visits to panda centers such as Wolong, where Fu Bao is being kept.
Interpark Tour unveiled a package tour to China called “Fu Bao’s Homeland,” which includes visits to panda centers in Chengdu.
Everland amusement park, Fu Bao's birthplace, is discussing with travel agencies the possibility of offering special tours featuring a reunion with the panda once she is available for public viewing again.
Similar panda-themed tour packages have seen success in Japan, particularly with Xiang Xiang, a female panda born at Ueno Zoo in Japan, who drew large crowds before being sent to China in February last year. Japan's tour packages to China, celebrating Xiang Xiang's birthday and offering reunions with the panda, sold out instantly upon release.
