The famous Sattler Panorama has been successfully relocated to its new home at the Orangery in Salzburg through a complex and carefully orchestrated transportation process. The historic painting by Hubert Sattler had to be moved from the New Residence due to ongoing renovation work at the original location.
The massive oil painting, measuring an impressive 25.53 meters in length and 4.86 meters in height, was lifted into the Orangery through a custom-made opening in the roof using precision crane work operated from Mirabellplatz. Before the public can view this remarkable artwork again, the painting must undergo an acclimatization period to adjust to its new environment.
Prior to its installation at the Orangery, the valuable artwork was temporarily stored at the cultural goods warehouse in Schwarzenberg Barracks. The transportation process itself was logistically challenging and required specialized equipment. The panoramic painting was carefully packed into a transport cylinder and loaded onto a climate-controlled art transport truck to ensure its preservation during the move.
The painting will remain in its protective packaging for several days while it acclimatizes to the temperature and humidity conditions of its new location. This acclimatization period is crucial for preserving the integrity of the historic artwork. The Sattler Panorama depicts a comprehensive view of Salzburg and its surrounding landscape as it appeared in 1825, making it an invaluable historical document as well as an artistic masterpiece.
