Hit Series Achieves Milestones on Streaming Platforms and Television Networks

The South Korean romance drama series "Queen of Tears" has garnered significant attention both domestically and internationally, achieving notable milestones in viewership and acclaim.

According to entertainment giant CJ ENM, "Queen of Tears" secured the second position in Netflix's non-English-language TV list during the final week of April, marking its eighth consecutive week in the top 10 for the category. Rankings are determined by the ratio of total hours viewed to the total runtime.

Moreover, the series set a record on television as well. The final episode of "Queen of Tears" became the most-watched episode ever aired by tvN, surpassing the viewership of episodes from other popular series such as "Crash Landing on You" (2020) and "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God" (2017). The final episode attained an average viewership rating of 28.4 percent in the Seoul metropolitan area and 24.9 percent nationwide, according to tvN.

Despite concluding its broadcast on Korean television channels, there remains anticipation for continued viewership on both domestic and international streaming platforms, as stated by a CJ ENM official.

The series has received acclaim for its exploration of themes such as love and loss, along with the sincere performances delivered by its cast. Notably, "Queen of Tears" has recorded high viewership ratings on global online review platforms, with 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.4 out of 10 on IMDb as of Thursday. Additionally, on Filmarks, the largest review site in Japan, the series achieved a rating of 4.5 out of 5.

Penned by renowned screenwriter Park Ji-eun, whose previous works include "Crash Landing on You" and "My Love From the Star," the 16-part drama stars Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won as a married couple navigating through challenges in their relationship. All 16 episodes of "Queen of Tears" are available for streaming on Netflix and Tving.
