The ambitious public art initiative featuring large-scale murals on building facades throughout Wuppertal is coming to an end this year, marking the conclusion of a project that has transformed the German city's urban landscape. The final phase of the program will see the completion of eight remaining murals, bringing the total number of artworks to 45 across the city.
Two new murals are currently in progress as part of the final installations. The first artwork at Wichlinghauser Straße 92 is scheduled for completion by Friday, September 12, 2025, while another mural at Badische Straße 10 will be finished by Monday. Following these installations, six additional murals will be created through the end of October, concluding the comprehensive public art program.
The mural project, which began two years ago, has significantly raised Wuppertal's profile both nationally and internationally. The initiative has featured works by international artists, transforming ordinary building facades into vibrant canvases that have attracted visitors and art enthusiasts from around the world. The project has been credited with enhancing the city's cultural reputation and contributing to its artistic identity.
To celebrate the completion of this major cultural undertaking, organizers have planned a free open-air closing party at Kluse, scheduled for Saturday, September 27, 2025. The celebration will take place even before the final mural is completed and will feature a diverse program including live music performances, art exhibitions, and street food vendors. This community event aims to bring residents and visitors together to commemorate the successful completion of the city's largest public art initiative in recent years.
