A striking new sculpture has been taking shape in the Presqu'île district of Caen, France, since early October 2025, capturing the attention of residents and visitors alike. The unusual installation, consisting of elevated black spheres, is being constructed next to the Palace of Justice and facing the Caen-to-sea canal.

The mysterious artwork is called "Molecular Clouds" and is the creation of Vincent Leroy, a Normandy-born artist who graduated from the National Higher School of Industrial Creation (École Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle). The sculpture is part of the "Parcours d'Œuvre" (Artwork Trail) organized to celebrate Caen's millennium anniversary.

According to the project description, the completed work will resemble "a constellation of mirror clouds" designed to reflect "both the past, present, and future of the city." The ambitious installation aims to become a landmark for both the city and its residents, serving as a permanent fixture that will remain in place well beyond 2025.

Residents and art enthusiasts will need to wait until mid-November to see the sculpture in its complete form. Once finished, the "Molecular Clouds" installation will appear to float in the skies above Caen for years to come, adding a distinctive element to the city's artistic landscape as part of its millennial celebration.
