Internationally acclaimed photographer Lorenzo Agius is set to showcase his work in Malta for the first time, marking a deeply personal homecoming for the artist who has Maltese heritage. The debut exhibition, titled "Look at Me: Framing the Iconic," will run from Friday, September 12th through Sunday, November 2nd at Spazju Kreattiv in Valletta.
The comprehensive exhibition will feature Agius's most celebrated portraits and cinematic moments displayed across four immersive rooms, offering visitors an in-depth look at his distinguished career. The photographer first gained widespread recognition through his groundbreaking Trainspotting series, which masterfully captured the raw energy and spirit of an entire generation during the 1990s.
Since his breakthrough with Trainspotting, Agius has established himself as one of the world's premier fashion and celebrity photographers, working with some of the most recognizable figures in entertainment and popular culture. His impressive portfolio includes iconic portraits of global superstars such as Harry Styles and Madonna, among countless other A-list celebrities and cultural icons.
Visitors to the Malta exhibition can expect to see large-format prints presented on specially selected textured watercolor paper, a choice designed to emphasize and highlight the tactile beauty and artistic quality of Agius's photographic work. Additionally, the exhibition will feature a dedicated projection room that offers guests a completely different and unique way to experience and appreciate his striking images.
Currently still active at the pinnacle of the fashion and celebrity photography industry, Agius continues to produce work that demonstrates his unwavering commitment to his craft. The exhibition serves as both a celebration of his remarkable career and a testament to the values of persistence, artistic integrity, and creative curiosity that have driven his success throughout the years.
The Malta showcase has been expertly curated by Charlene Vella, with sophisticated design work provided by Mather & Co and additional curatorial assistance from Michaele Zammit. This collaborative effort ensures that the exhibition will present Agius's work in the most compelling and visually striking manner possible, making it a must-see cultural event for art enthusiasts and photography lovers visiting Malta this fall.
