A French collector has donated nearly 1,000 photographs by renowned and controversial Japanese photographer Araki to the Guimet National Museum of Asian Arts in Paris. Stéphane André, a 65-year-old recently retired literature teacher, made the significant donation before relocating from his small Parisian apartment to his native Southwest France.

André, who spent his career as a professor of literature, decided to part with his extensive collection of Araki's work as he prepared for a major life change. The collector is leaving behind his modest apartment in Paris to return to Southwest France, where he plans to enjoy retirement in a home with a large garden.

The donation consists of 1,000 photographs by Nobuyoshi Araki, one of Japan's most famous and provocative photographers. The Guimet National Museum of Asian Arts, located in Paris's 16th arrondissement, will be the beneficiary of this substantial collection. Araki, known for his bold and often controversial photographic work, has been a significant figure in contemporary Japanese art and photography for decades.
