Online access to Korean short films is set to expand through the special screening program. The initiative's impact on audience participation is expected to be assessed after the event concludes.
According to SayArt on July 23, the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) will present the online special program "Cine Academy: Introduction to Short Films" on the Indie Ground platform from July 25 through July 31. All seven selected films will be streamed free of charge during the event.
The showcase is designed to make Korean short films more accessible to first-time viewers. The program is divided into two sections: Beginner, featuring accessible stories and shorter running times, and Advanced, highlighting experimental narratives and diverse cinematic approaches.
The Beginner section includes Family Film (2012), Class President Election (2021), The Dance Only I Know (2025), and Daldali Is My Roommate (2025). The longest film in the section runs for 25 minutes.
The Advanced section features Odd TV Encyclopedia: Episode 617, The Strange Life of an Eccentric Man and a Talking Goat (2021), Memory Within Space (2024), and Communion (2026). KOFIC said the selection presents a range of storytelling methods and visual styles found in contemporary Korean short films.
The showcase was planned and curated by Eodumdan, an exhibition planning group formed by graduates of the fourth Indie Ground Distribution Academy. Following the completion of the program, the group has continued organizing independent film screenings and audience programs.
All films will be available for free through the Indie Ground website throughout the screening period. Eodumdan said it hopes the event will provide more audiences with an opportunity to discover Korean short films in an accessible format.
KOFIC plans to continue expanding opportunities for online access to independent and short films through similar initiatives. The program's contribution to audience engagement and the circulation of Korean short films is expected to be evaluated after the screening period.
