Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: EA) and Hazelight Studios, renowned for their 2021 Game of the Year title It Takes Two, announced their latest creation, Split Fiction, a CO-OP action-adventure game that pushes the boundaries of cooperative gameplay. Set to release on March 6, 2025, the game features a unique blend of sci-fi and fantasy worlds, inviting players to embark on a visually captivating split-screen adventure.
In Split Fiction, players assume the roles of Mio and Joy, characters navigating constantly evolving abilities as they traverse imaginative worlds. From escaping a sun and turning into a supernova to battling an evil feline or performing hoverboard stunts, the game promises an array of creative challenges. Players will encounter gravity bikes, sandworm sharks, and even a dance battle with a monkey, ensuring a thrilling variety of experiences.
Josef Fares, founder of Hazelight Studios, expressed confidence in the game’s groundbreaking approach. “For the past decade, Hazelight has specialized in CO-OP games that redefine player expectations. Split Fiction takes this to another level. With Mio and Joy journeying through sci-fi and fantasy realms, we’ve created gameplay and storytelling that are nothing short of extraordinary. I’m certain this will be the best CO-OP adventure game yet.”
The story of Split Fiction centers on Mio and Joy, writers of science fiction and fantasy novels respectively, who find themselves trapped in their own stories after being connected to a machine designed to steal creative ideas. To escape, they must collaborate, harness unique abilities, and recover their fragmented memories while navigating between their two contrasting worlds.
Jeff Gamon, General Manager of EA Partners, highlighted the significance of this collaboration. “CO-OP games foster friendship and create lasting memories, and no one does this better than Hazelight Studios. We’re thrilled to continue our long-term partnership with Josef and his talented team to deliver another innovative cooperative adventure. Together, we’ll continue to redefine what’s possible for players both on and off the screen.”
The game also features Hazelight’s signature “Friend Pass,” allowing players to invite a friend to join the adventure for free. Available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms via Steam, the enhanced Friend Pass now supports improved cross-play functionality, broadening its accessibility.
Split Fiction will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, and the EA App for $49.99.
