We Are The Night, an indie band known for its unique sound, has achieved a significant milestone by topping TikTok Korea's "Song of the Summer" list with their single "Tiramisu Cake." The track, originally released in 2015, has seen a resurgence in popularity this summer, becoming the most-used song in Korean TikTok content.
TikTok Korea unveiled its "Song of the Summer" list on Wednesday, featuring the top 10 most-utilized local tracks in short-form content on the platform. "Tiramisu Cake" led the list, largely due to its viral success in over 1 million TikTok clips, many of which feature dance challenges inspired by the song's catchy rhythm and melody.
Close behind in second place was Bumkey’s “Attraction (feat. Dynamic Duo),” followed by Cha Noeul’s “Happy (Prod. Hedyy)” in third. Notably, several K-pop tracks also made the list, with Ive’s “Heya” at No. 4, Illit’s “Magnetic” at No. 6, Girl’s Day’s classic hit “Twinkle Twinkle” at No. 9, and TWS’ “If I'm S, Can You Be My N?” rounding out the list at No. 10.
The success of "Tiramisu Cake" highlights the power of TikTok in bringing older songs back into the spotlight and introducing them to new audiences. The platform's ability to influence music trends, especially through viral challenges, has become increasingly evident, with "Tiramisu Cake" being a prime example.
In addition to its Korean list, TikTok also revealed its Global Songs of the Summer list earlier this week. The Chilean artists FloyyMenor and Cris MJ's track "Gata Only" took the top spot, having inspired over 15 million videos on the platform globally.
We Are The Night's achievement underscores the growing impact of indie music on mainstream platforms and the dynamic nature of music consumption in the digital age. As TikTok continues to shape music trends, artists across genres and regions are finding new ways to connect with global audiences.
