Krafton, led by CEO Kim Chang-han, has announced the commencement of the 2024 PUBG Weekly Series (PWS) Phase 2, set to begin on September 21. This tournament, a major event in the Battlegrounds esports calendar, will feature intense competition as professional and amateur teams vie for a chance to advance to international tournaments.
The 2024 PWS Phase 2 is the second half of this year's series and will include 16 teams. Twelve professional teams will compete alongside four amateur teams that earned their spots through the PUBG Level Up Series (PLS) Phase 2. The tournament is structured into two stages: the Weekly Stage and the Grand Final.
The Weekly Stage will run from September 21 to October 6, with matches taking place online every Saturday and Sunday. The action will culminate in the Grand Final, held in person at the Vita 500 Colosseum in Jamsil, Seoul, from October 11 to 13. Across nine days of competition, a total of 45 matches will be played, with five matches held per day.
The champion of the 2024 PWS Phase 2 will be determined based on the Grand Final results. The total prize pool for the tournament is 80 million KRW, with the winning team receiving 40 million KRW. Second to fourth-place teams will share the remaining prize money, while the MVP of the tournament will take home an additional 5 million KRW in individual prize money.
This phase of the PWS is particularly important as it offers teams qualification opportunities for major international events, including the PUBG Global Series (PGS) 5 and 6, and the prestigious PUBG Global Championship (PGC) 2024, set to take place at the end of the year. With so much on the line, the competition is expected to be fierce, and teams will be battling not only for prize money but also for their shot at international glory.
The 2024 PWS Phase 2 will be broadcast live at 7:00 PM KST on each match day. Fans can catch all the action on various platforms, including the official Battlegrounds esports YouTube channel, Twitch, AfreecaTV, Naver Esports, and TikTok.
