'Shin In-ho Landing' explores urban memory with metahuman and generative AI technologies

According to SayArt on July 23, the Seoul Museum of Art's Seoseoul Museum will present "SeMA Project V: YALOO" through July 26. The special exhibition is open to the public free of charge.

The exhibition is the first installment of SeMA Project V, a new initiative exploring the relationship between urban memory and emerging technologies. The project extends beyond conventional gallery spaces and presents artworks across multiple environments.

The exhibition features "Shin In-ho Landing," an installation by artist YALOO. The work centers on the fictional character Shin In-ho, an 86-year-old K-pop idol and "grandmother pirate" who infiltrates digital data banks while moving across the historical layers of western Seoul.

According to the Seoul Museum of Art, the installation connects the area's industrial past with its present role as a hub for IT servers and digital platforms. The fictional narrative uses piracy as a framework for reconsidering urban memory, history, and data systems.

The installation incorporates a spacecraft-like structure resembling both a pirate ship and an aging data center. Octagon-shaped LED panels continuously reorganize visual elements to present relationships among the human body, objects, memory, ancestors, and digital information.

The project combines multiple digital production methods, including metahuman technology, motion capture, and generative artificial intelligence. Writers, architects, musicians, graphic designers, technical directors, and actors participated in the collaborative production process.

The exhibition runs from March 12 through July 26 at the Seoseoul Museum of Art. Admission is free. Opening hours are 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekdays and 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on weekends and public holidays during the summer season. Visitors may enter until 30 minutes before closing.

The Seoul Museum of Art plans to continue expanding SeMA Project V through future editions that connect exhibition spaces with the urban environment. The project's long-term engagement with audiences and public spaces is expected to be evaluated as the series develops.
