The city of Daejeon, in collaboration with the 3·8 Democratic Uprising Commemoration Association, will host the 3·8 Blue Music Concert on December 6. Held at the Concert Hall of the Music Building at Chungnam National University, this event celebrates the 64th anniversary of the historic 3·8 Democratic Uprising.
The concert aims to honor and promote the values of the uprising—freedom, democracy, and justice—through music, creating a platform for reflection and community celebration. This commemorative event aspires to connect with the public by showcasing the profound historical significance of the uprising in an artistic manner.
Led by Professor Emeritus Lee Jong Hee from the Department of Music at Chungnam National University’s College of Arts, the performance will feature an impressive lineup of talented vocalists, clarinet and trumpet soloists, and the Neuru Concert Choir. Together, they will deliver an emotionally resonant program designed to capture the spirit of the uprising.
Jung Jin Yong, director of the 3·8 Democratic Uprising Memorial Hall, emphasized the cultural importance of the event, stating, “The 3·8 Democratic Uprising has transcended its origins as a local movement in Daejeon to become a cultural asset for our society. This concert offers an opportunity for more people to reflect on the historical significance and enduring values of freedom, democracy, and justice.”
As a pivotal moment in South Korea’s struggle for democracy, the 3·8 Democratic Uprising remains a powerful symbol of civic courage. The upcoming concert not only pays tribute to the movement but also seeks to embed its message more deeply into the nation’s cultural consciousness through the universal language of music.
The 3·8 Blue Music Concert is expected to serve as a meaningful and moving event for attendees, uniting history, music, and community in a celebration of democratic values.
