Korean Dance, Ballet and Contemporary Dance at Dalseo Arts Center on Aug. 29; Admission Free

The 2026 Daegu Dance Festival will take place at 7 p.m. on Aug. 29 at Cheongnyong Hall in Dalseo Arts Center, Daegu. The event is hosted and organized by the DDPA Daegu Dance Promotion Association, with support from Daegu Metropolitan City and the Daegu Foundation for Culture and Arts.

The program comprises six works across Korean dance, ballet and contemporary dance. The association holds the festival annually to provide regional choreographers with opportunities to present new work and exchange ideas across genres.

The program opens with “Unfamiliar Harmony,” a Korean dance work choreographed by Jang Hyun-jin. Combining traditional Korean rhythms with contemporary beats, the piece depicts different cultures moving from conflict toward coexistence.

Kim Sung-ryeong’s ballet “Monism of Self and Other” follows three women competing for a single apple. Through selection, jealousy and the emotions following victory, the work considers how personal values are formed through relationships with others.

Contemporary dance work “Nanchun,” choreographed by Park Jin-a, focuses on the anxiety accompanying the vitality of spring. Its movement vocabulary addresses internal confusion during periods of change.

Song Ga-young’s Korean dance work “A Philosophical Reflection on Death — The Filled Place” deals with memories that remain after death and separation. The piece examines the traces individuals leave in one another’s lives.

Ballet work “Just as It Flows,” choreographed by Park Min-woo, combines classical ballet movement with Korean traditional music. It portrays people finding their own paths without a predetermined answer.

The final work is Han So-hee’s contemporary dance piece “A Poem Written on the Ground.” Using paper, poetry and the ground as symbolic elements, it addresses the effort to move beyond personal limitations.

The festival is organized as a platform for emerging choreographers to create and present work. Admission is free.
