WayV, the Chinese subunit of SM Entertainment’s NCT group, continues its impressive trajectory as their sixth mini album Frequency debuts at the top of iTunes' Top Albums chart in 13 regions. Released on Monday, the EP includes six tracks, with title songs available in both Korean and Chinese, as well as the pre-released single "High Five," which dropped a week earlier.
Frequency marks a bold shift for the group, showcasing a refreshed artistic direction following the success of their previous release, Give Me That. The earlier single marked a milestone for WayV, becoming their first chart-topper on Oricon’s Daily Album Ranking in Japan. Their debut Japanese album, The Highest, also achieved significant acclaim, dominating both the Daily and Weekly Album Rankings last month.
This latest release further solidifies WayV’s position as a global powerhouse in the K-pop industry. The EP's tracks explore a range of sonic landscapes, blending WayV’s signature sound with innovative production that highlights the group's evolving musical identity.
WayV’s members – Kun, Ten, Winwin, Xiaojun, and Hendery – are not just celebrating chart success but are also in the midst of their first international tour, On The Way. The group performed in Bangkok and Taipei earlier this month, captivating audiences with electrifying live performances. Upcoming stops include concerts in Hong Kong and Macao, with dates extending into February 2024.
SM Entertainment credits WayV’s strong global reception to their ability to connect with fans across diverse cultures and languages. The multilingual tracks in Frequency not only highlight this commitment but also cater to the group's broad international fanbase.
As WayV prepares for their upcoming performances, they continue to break barriers and redefine the standards for global K-pop acts. With Frequency climbing charts worldwide, the group’s trajectory signals even greater achievements on the horizon.
