Two artists known as Jana & JS have completed a new street art mural near the Couvent des Jacobins on rue d'Échange in Rennes, France. The artwork was commissioned by Destination Rennes and the M.U.R association, featuring themes that resonate with childhood and intimate moments.
The mural was created to commemorate the 54th National Conference of the French Society of Perinatal Medicine (SFMP), which took place from October 15-17 at the Couvent des Jacobins. The event drew between 600 and 1,000 perinatal professionals, including doctors, midwives, and researchers. To mark this significant gathering, the street art piece was painted on the wall of the Congress Center on rue d'Échange.
Since 2023, this 47-meter wall has regularly hosted various artists for street art creations, according to Destination Rennes. In partnership with the M.U.R association (Modulable urbain réactif), which provides artistic direction for the wall, they selected the artist duo Jana & JS for this project. The collaborative team consists of Jana, originally from Austria, and Jean-Sébastien Philippe from France.
The artistic approach of Jana & JS combines photography and stencil techniques to capture both intimate and universal moments. Their unique method allows them to create works that speak to personal experiences while maintaining broad appeal. The artists began working on the piece on Monday, October 13, developing their vision over several days.
This latest addition to Rennes' street art scene demonstrates the city's commitment to public art and cultural expression. The M.U.R association continues to facilitate these artistic collaborations, transforming urban spaces into canvases that reflect contemporary themes and community experiences.
