Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) is set to host a vibrant Hanbok Expo starting this Friday, offering significant discounts on traditional Korean clothing. The four-day event will feature over 100 vendors showcasing a diverse range of hanbok styles, including modern adaptations, accessories, and even garments for pets. Attendees can look forward to discounts averaging 30%, with some items reduced by up to 80%.
The Hanbok Expo, an annual event initiated in 2018 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, aims to celebrate the history and evolution of the Hanbok. The expo will include exhibits on the traditional attire's historical significance and its modern adaptations.
A highlight of the event will be a hanbok fashion show, curated by Lee Jin-hee, a professor of acting at the Korea National University of Arts. The show will explore the integration of digital technologies into hanbok design, showcasing innovative approaches to remaking traditional garments.
Additionally, the expo will feature an exhibition dedicated to the Culture Ministry's longstanding efforts to promote hanbok. This includes a display of thirty hanbok designs recognized for their creativity in a recent ministry-held contest. Visitors will also see over 100 hanbok pieces developed in 2023, designed to fit contemporary work environments.
Admission to the expo is free for those who book tickets through hanbokexpo2024.govent.kr by Thursday. Visitors who arrive in Hanbok will also receive free entry. For those who do not preregister, the admission fee is 5,000 won, applicable to all ages.
