Alex Janvier, a key figure in contemporary Indigenous art in Canada, has passed away at 89.
His work is known for its vibrant abstractions that blend Indigenous symbolism with modernist styles.
He co-founded the Indian Group of Seven, transforming perceptions of Indigenous art.
He received numerous honors, including the Order of Canada, and maintained a lifelong studio in Cold Lake, Alberta.
