Abstract paintings combine acrylic, hanji, and paper through material-based expression

The exhibition focuses on relationships between color, material, and abstraction. Interpretations of the works are expected to vary according to each visitor's experience.

Artist Lee Yo Mong is presenting a new solo exhibition featuring recent abstract paintings in Seoul.

On July 19, SayArt confirmed that STORY will be held from February 1 through February 12 at Gallery J.ONE Seoul in Jongno District. The gallery is closed on Sundays, and the recommended viewing time is approximately 30 minutes.

The exhibition presents paintings created with acrylic paint, hanji, and Western paper. Works in the exhibition explore the interaction of color, texture, and material through layered abstract compositions.

Rather than emphasizing brushwork, Lee develops compositions by pouring paint and allowing it to settle naturally. The resulting forms are combined with the textures of paper, creating works that balance material processes with artistic choice.

According to the artist's statement, Lee seeks to express thoughts, emotions, and sensations through color, line, and form. The interaction between different materials is treated as an essential element of the creative process rather than simply a technical experiment.

Gallery J.ONE describes the exhibition as an introduction to Lee's ongoing exploration of abstract visual narratives shaped by personal experience. The presentation places emphasis on materiality and the evolving process of image formation.

Lee Yo Mong graduated from the Department of Western Painting at Ewha Womans University before completing graduate studies at the same institution. She has presented solo exhibitions including Beautiful Story, Recent Works, Story, and STORY, while continuing to participate in group exhibitions in Korea and abroad.

The exhibition continues through February 12. The significance of Lee's recent body of work is expected to be assessed following the conclusion of the exhibition.
